Not particularly. You could probably sell it and buy a D90 for the same amount. The D90 is better:

That said, you can certainly stick a lens on it ans go out and take good pictures and learn photography with it, it's just not a very good camera technically and is missing the autofocus motor which limits you to more expensive lenses.

Be very very attentive to your senses when you're shooting. Photography is a very instinctual medium at least when you're shooting so just don't question it if you like some shit, shoot that. Also after taking photos maybe after a week or two look at them and try to reflect on them. You will start to understand what you like and why you like it. If you begin to work towards the themes that you like then you will be ahead of most photo snapshitters who don't know why do they press a button.

Now if you want to learn composition. That's a different beast and it depends on how serious are you about photography. But do learn some based composition techniques if you want your photos to look less shite.

Not compared to the D3100. D3100 is barely newer and gives you 14 instead of 12 MP which is nothing, both are shit for video.

What the D90 does give you is, again. AF-D compatibility, which lets you use a ton of nice cheap glass.

The D90 is a better camera in almost every conceivable way, pic related
