Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 vs Sony 11mm f1.8 for travel?

I have a Sony apsc body with a bunch of primes. I want a trio of zooms for travel. I'm thinking the Sigma 18-50mm, Sony 55-210 kit lens and for ultra wide I'm stuck between the Sony 11mm f1.8 prime and the Tamron 11-20mm f2.8. I want to be Astro capable, so the Sony F4 lenses are a no-go.

UWA zooms are pretty specialized for indoors architecture where a client wants the entire room but you can only back up so far

for travel a decently wide prime from 18mm to 24mm is simpler to use, more compact, and faster. The primes are also typically sharper and the speed helps with astro.

I want to use it for landscapes on my hikes and travels. There are a lot of locations where I cannot backup because I'll be in the woods, or walk off a cliff. I figure a zoom will make compositions easier without being forced to change my perspective, which might not matter much with ultra wide.

Is that a legitimate solution? I hate to admit it, but I've never taken a panorama. Do they actually turn out good compared to a 15mm focal length full frame landscape?

I find anything less than 18mm eq. to be uselessly wide outdoors.

Do you mind explaining that? I thought panoramas usually get distorted and you can't really control shutter speed.

I'm thinking you're specifically in a landscape and there's a lot to see. I've seen a lot of stunning landscapes taken at 15mm full frame with stunning foregrounds and subjects in the distance. So much depth. That's what I'd want an ultra wide for outdoors.

You can keep your settings the same and adjust exposure slightly in post

Even better for panoramas is a shift lens

After buying the widest rectilinear lens that exists for APS-C for this exact reason, I suggest panoramas instead.

It's incredibly difficult to compose a shot or create a balanced composition on the fly. There's just too much in the frame. Stitch together 3-4 images, and you have much more room to play later on, and you'll be less likely to curse yourself for not turning a few degrees left or right.

I don't regret buying the lens (I shoot real estate), but ultrawides < 18mm eq. are not useful for ~90% of landscapes.

Examples?
You need meticulous planning to achieve good composition with really extreme focal lengths.

All I got on my hikes without days of prep work was 'pretty clutter'. Maybe I just need more practice, but that's my $0.02

Same day, same spot, 55mm

I'm still kicking myself for not scrambling up that little ridge on the left of the frame to get the lead line all the way through the middle on the ultrawide shot.
