>>4136361>can a metering mode achieve a result that couldn't be achieved otherwise by several exposures or setting the shutter speed/f-stop or iso manualy in any of available modes? No. The exposure metering is only an indicator. It's even the other way around that the exposure metering becomes unreliable in very dark surroundings, whereby I no longer know whether metering then would underexpose or overexpose. Exposure preview in live view (so also zebras, histograms) is also inaccurate in edge cases. For astro or high-iso shots, for example, it is therefore best to take a test shot. With high-iso, individual color channels can be clipping easily even with balanced exposures.
So metering is just a tool to help you determine where to set exposure, and this rather for image capturing than for image appearance. I like metering because it's fast, reliable, and takes away the responsibility of me fiddling in exposure settings which can be done automatically by the camera.

>>4133224, the OP very likely wants to know how to achieve a dark image appearance. You actually achieve that in advance easiest with exposure preview at live view, maybe then experience how far you want to underexpose or overexpose with a metering and/or for a known scene, an environment, a lighting situation. For the image appearance, information loss through underexposure or overexposure is not untypical, or if you think of high-key and low-key the histogram may at least be unbalanced and very one-sided.
