trying to get into film photography

im completely new to any form of photography and i want to buy a 35mm film camera (picrel is what im looking at, canon FTb-QL w/ 50mm f/1.8 lens) but i have some quick questions:

are 35mm film types universal? would any 35mm film work in the aforementioned camera (im specifically looking at infrared film, would i need anything special for that?)

what do different types of lens do actually? like what does the 50mm and f/1.8 actually mean?

how easy is it to actually reload the film on the camera and how hard is it to develop the film? is it something that could be easily fucked up

Any 35mm film in a standard kodak cassette will fit.
The lens size (eg. 50mm) its the focal length. meaning how much of the scene you can capture. 50mm is a portrait lens, a 28mm lens is a wide lens for example.

the f/1.8 is how much light the lens can let trought, affect things like Depth of Field, speed needed, etc. Almost never you are going to go to the maximus opening (Think it like you pupil)

Reloading the film if piss easy, just be sure to look at a video of your specific model. A way to make sure that the film is actually moving forward is to look at the rewind mechanism. If its moving its working.

Developing black and white film is piss easy, like making coffee.

Developing color is more a bitch because of the chemicals needed.

50mm is the focal length, it defines the field of view your camera sees.

f1.8 is the aperture, this is how much light the lens can let in, the smaller the number, the more light, the more light, the shallower the depth of field (longer focal lengths also make for shallower depth of field)

developing film is easy, you just pay the people at the shop to do it. If you want to do it at home then black and white is much easier than colour, but you will probably need to spend a couple hundred $ on kit and chemicals, and have a room that can be completely pitch black, like a utility room or bathroom with no windows.

reloading film is easy, if you've never done it jsut watch a youtube video.

Good model, good resale value, but now it's overpriced as fuck and it's heavy. Get an AT1, usualy they are cheaper and it's virtually the same (and weight half a kilo less)

The 35mm cartridge is a standard so technicaly every one of them will work. Don't do infrared at least a year in, not only you will do two roll and get tired of the novelty, but you need to pay for a IR filter and it will work only during bright sunny day.

Different lenses will do different results.

50mm is the focal distance, meaning the wideness of the shot (this one is a standard for regular photography).
f/1.8 is the aperture opening. Bigger mean more light to use but will shorten the depth of field.

Unless you got a special camera like those 1940 leica, it's piss easy.
Deving b&w is also super easy. Color is a pain in the ass.

You got spoonfed 3 times, now you're full and can fuck off at the library and buy a "photography for dummies" before coming back.

Hundreds of dollars for a bw developing setup is a bit much. I paid $40 for my metal tank plus reels, plus $40 for rodinal and ilford fixer, and use a corner of my basement at night as a darkroom.

It’s probably the worst time to get into film photography (thanks to inflation). You’ll probably be extremely disappointed — unless if you have a ton of disposable income

loading film into cameras is usually easy(the newer camera you get, the easier it is because they added better loading systems)
developing film is also usually easy but if you're new, you will probably have problems with inserting the film into the tank in the dark, after that it's easy
35mm is universal but some weird cameras(old, obscure soviet stuff) can have problems with longer films(more than 36exp)
I will also make some unrelated recommendations:
get fomapan or aristaedu as your first film, they're the same thing and are very forgiving and cheap, use standard(recommended on the box) development times at first, try and see what you like when you get comfortable
if you don't have a camera yet, maybe look for a praktica mtl3(maybe a dtl3 or even a ltl, which is what I use, they're reliable and very sturdy), here you can get it for under 40usd and it has the basic features needed, it also has the benefit of being able to use alkaline batteries thanks to the internal regulator, I don't know any western cameras so I won't be able to help with that if you want one of those

It's not even particularly worth it unless you have the cash for a medium format camera+120 roll film - or bigger.

35mm film with the period equipment you'll be using (not exactly adapted SK cine lenses or brand new leicazeiss shit) averages well under the picture quality you get from 12mp digital cameras. Slap a lightroom preset over some photos you took with a pentax k10d or any cheap CCD based DSLR, most people can't tell.

if you want to only shoot black and white have the CFA removed, it does make the images a little sharper
