does anyone know how to get the compression effect when just cropping from a wide photo?

Is this something that can be added in post?

I feel with todays modern and high megapixel cameras cropping to achieve reach is the way of the future, but at the same time when doing so the photos lose something when compared to using an actual tele, i just can't be assed carrying such big lens around
