I spent 1100 canbucks to see if I can tell the difference editing a complex photo with lots of colours in Adobe rgb vs printing in srgb cause some anon who shoots m43 flamed me for missing out for not printing in Adobe rgb.

I will print these out on a Canon Pro 200.

No it comes pre calibrated but a colour calibrator will check ambient room light and will make you change the brightness. I'll be setting it up once I get home.

Well that's neat. I've been recently looking at taking photos in adobe RGB, but I kept reading online that it was just a meme and didn't much. But it definitely looks like it should give you more room to push around colors during editing. A comparison edit would be cool

Well this monitor will definetly display more colours as a raw photo due to it being Adobe rgb and the raw processor will always maximize the amount of colours it shows you. I know people here troll but i was pretty annoyed cause I still stand by the diminishing returns of the benefit of this monitor compared to a high end gaming monitor thst colour calibrated but I'll see when I start testing it.

It depends on how 'high end' of a gaming monitor you're talking about. At some point you're paying for the high refresh rates and that does nothing for you while photo editing. I'd much rather have your monitor than a 4k 120hz monitor or whatever $1100 leafbucks will buy in gaming equivalence. You *should* get better uniformity and delta e performance with your monitor. How much that'll come across? Idk. But it will be better than an equivalently expensive gaming monitor.

It's actually kind of tough to find good quality cases without them. Outside of Fractal, almost all good cases have tempered glass pannels whether you want them or not.

Of course it will. I just think it's diminishing returns at that point. I do print and sell to clients and I do actual TFP shoots that always make models I work with happy when they see the work we did printed up.

Regardless I did sell some things laying around to justify this purchase so im not upset about buying it at all

I have 5700x and RX 5600XT with the same amount and type of RAM. After the 5600's surprise firmware update (in response to Nvidia dropping prices) our systems are very similar. Sensible systems at a good price.

Yeah I have 2 m.2 drives and 4 ssd's and 1x 4 bay nas running raid. I also backup my completed edited photos on a portable hardrive and leave it at a cousins house. It was an emergency build (I always give my system to my dad when he needs a new one and build something new for myself) and it was right at the beginning of the pandemic when there was a shortage, but before prices shot up. It quadrupled in price in weeks.

All of my AMD GPUs have been Sapphire, but there were none in stock so I went with Asus... figured I'd give them a shot since that's what my mobos have been for 20 years. It's just the 6Gb Tuf and it's been great. I don't use Resolve but it's been excellent with AE, PS, and Blender. Also I've been dual booting Linux for 2 years with precisely 0 issues.

Thanks! I don't see the point in upgrading the card if you don't play games. You'll see very little performance increase in any editing programs.

There is something about those photos that feel very 80s to me and I cannot put my finger on it but it's very cool

Lol, you're as paranoid as I am. I already had a house fire in the early 90s and lost everything. Same, two m.2s (Win11Pro and Arch) with shared ssds in raid. I also backup my photos on an external drive (not portable, just 8TB WD Purple with a USB adapter) and another identical drive, but encrypted, at my in-law's house.

All these years later, the only thing anyone gives a shit about from that fire are the lost family photos and other similar sentimental items. Everything else can be replaced.

Spite toward Microsoft and I'm learning Bash because reasons. Also I game a bit and noticed virtually every title runs better in Linux thanks to Vulkan. They ran great in Windows too, but Linux is just that much better. GPU temps and overall power draw stays lower. Makes sense when you compare the system calls between the two. It's come a long way the past 5 years in terms of compatibility.

I keep Windows almost exclusively for work, as there is some proprietary software I have to use for G-code. If it weren't for that I'd say I'd be comfortable ditching it altogether very soon. I also run Ubuntu on another system.

I notice no difference in either file other than some *slight* banding in the srgb photo. After I cleanup and go to the gym I will print out 1 srgb jpeg and one adobe rgb tiff with canon print and layout.

Iirc you shouldn't use HDR unless your viewing HDR content or editing content meant for HDR displays. If you edit something with HDR mode on, it will look fucked up on non-HDR displays. Also this board is incredibly slow. I suspect there are literally like 30 people who use it.

I don't know how color accurate OLEDS are, and they are also typically massive would I imagine would make it difficult to edit photos on. They also currently have issues with displaying text clearly due to them having a non rgb subpixel layout. Someday I'm sure they will be the standard, but it's not there yet.

I'm building a studio in my living room and using my TV as a preview screen while im tethered to the camera. I've seen a few studio photographer do this, so I'm gonna give it a try since I never really use my TV anyways.

Most pro print shops clamp to srgb. Ask your print shop for their colour profiles.

As for hdr, I'd say leave it on for your benefit, but again before posting photos online or sending proofs to clients, you need to go back to srgb, as that's likely going to be the closest to what they have.

Monitor colour also drifts, so you will need a calibration device in 6 months time.

Sold my 4k LG monitor i replaced and while delivering it I scratched the front. Luckily it still works so i was able to sell it for 100 dollars. Guy said scratch isn't really visible when it powers on. I've now justifies this monitor as I sold enough stuff around my house to pay for it.

I was still rocking the FX-8350 (5GHz on water) until my dad's PC shit itself... the PSU went and took the PCI-E ports with it. He had my old X4 940BE and by that time it made more sense to just build myself a new system rather than hunt down overpriced old parts to fix his. I tuned the 8350 down to 4.2GHz and put a Noctua fan in so he can just be hassle-free on the maintenance front.

There's nothing wrong with the i7 2600k, it won't bottleneck most midrange GPUs even today.

Adobe RGB is a meme. You will sometimes find a difference, but I call bullshit on the difference actually being "better" (or "worse") or significantly contributing to the enjoyment of a photo. I consider my paper choice in my printer to be of greater importance to the final print's color fidelity than sRGB vs. Adobe RGB.

The other thing is that everything seems to be able to "speak" sRGB and do a decent job of displaying/printing it. With Adobe RGB you now have the added task of producing sRGB versions that look good everywhere else besides your printer.

i printed out 2 copies.

>1 x 16 bit adobe rgb tiff file using canon professional print and layout.

>1 x 8 bit srgb file using canon professional print and layout.

>both printed with pro luster. Also watched a 1 hour tutorial on professional print and layout to ensure I was printing correctly.
There is not a visible difference.
The only thing and you have to really view it closely, is there is slight banding from the hue shift on the srgb print.
so I decided to mirror my displays, and yes the Adobe RGB monitor was displaying a TINY bit more colour especially above the village on the right had side.
If I took both these prints to a coffee shop and asked people there to tell me which one the "better print" is. They wouldn't be able to tell.
I will test again in the future with a portrait I took in a studio with tons of colours.

So in conlusion, there is such limited returns here, that it's not worth it to spend 1k just to be hoity toity about print quality. Is it bad to get that 5% extra oomph to your photo? of course not. Do I have any regrets? No. This monitor is actually a beast and I watched a movie on it last night and it looked amazing.

fuck the conceited micro poor thirds anon who got in a flame war with me about this, I will now laugh at every conceited idiot, who tries to one up and put another user down because they are not printing in adobe rgb.

the adobe rgb print. The hue shift is much smoother.
But I really had to look hard. Most people will not be able to tell the difference.
Now If I was printing for a customer, of course since I am a quality freak, I would want to print the best case scenario. This is why I choose to shoot full frame minimum, or 4x5. I print 13x19 at home, and with roll paper I can print stuff from my 617 camera, or 4x5 if i crop to 1:3. If you want bigger both formats will be able to handle it up to a certain size.

but when does this obsession stop? Let's take film for example

>baka not getting a drum scan
>Not using a 10k printer

Everything is diminishing returns at a certain point. In conclusion shoot more photos anon and stop listening to gearfags here.

Yeah it's a good monitor can't deny that. Watching hdr content on it yesterday was pretty nuts. And it's insanely bright and sharp and vivid.

Are you sure that's not because the sRGB was 8-bit? I don't bother with Adobe RGB, but my masters are 16-bit and I send 16-bit to my printer.

Well considering the monitor next to the Proart display is a LG ultragear which cost ~680, I can see the results directly when I mirror the image, and the lg ultragear is colour calibrated.

So yeah not sure why i should have to repeat again what I wrote about "the asus being amazing to watch hdr/4k video on" especially in terms of brightness and contrast, but ok anon keep being you.

I paid 950 CAD before tax, which came to 1077.

The monitor is selling for 1500 CAD from BHphoto, unsure if its cheaper in the UK.

I know another anon suggested a viewsonic monitor above, that can push 144hz but it's mini LED and unsure what the difference between IPS is. I'm still happy regardless.

What's the point of buying an AdobeRGB screen to preview prints? It might have a slightly wider gamut but at the end of the day, you're never going to faithfully recreate a medium with a subtractive colour model on a backlit monitor using an additive monitor

You will mostly see the difference in hard saturated areas. SRGB is saturated while aRGB have detail. That's about it.
Mostly comes out in fashion, flowers and women's portraits photos

I found a great improvement upgrading to a 5800x especially when editing 4x5 photos in capture one.

We have an Epson ET 7750 and felt somewhat bad that it has only 5 normal inks. We've had several consumer Canon and Epson Inkjet printers and on all visible prints the colors faded and shifted after about a decade, in particular when exposed to direct sunlight.
I feel like pigmented ink is the only true option, but actually, we don't know.
