But seriously though, what's up with Canon these days? Why are our lenses priced higher than equivalent Nikon and Sony variants?

I was comparing the 70-200mm f4L to the much cheaper (and brighter) Tamron 70-180mm f2.8, and the Tamron is better.

The 24-105mm f4L is soft as shit.

What keeps you going as a Canon guy? Give me some encouragement.

Canon is for pros that need canon pro services and cheapskate normies that don’t think about camera specs and just want pretty photos straight out of the camera using a cheap variable aperture or f4 zoom or cheap middling quality prime

If you’re an amateur or side gigger that wants good specs and can’t justify a CPS membership it’s not the brand for you

I have a 5DSR and 135L and 35L and some other lenses. That kit alone gives me anything I'd ever need to shoot what I shoot (cars and people). The controls are intuitive and I don't feel the need to make a lateral move to another system. If anything, I want to get a 400mm+ lens for it and play around with telephoto compression.
When I travel or want something more portable and casual, I use much much smaller cameras like a Powershot.

I like using their bodies, am happy with their service and support, feel they try and improve things before offering immature features, am happy with mounting EF lenses on RF bodies, am not yet as convinced by their RF bodies, but am far less satisfied with other mirrorless systems.
Though, the cripple hammer is real, and you have to do your research and know what you really want or need to avoid being screwed by what feels like arbitrary restrictions. I even find Canon to be competitively priced, on the premise of waiting for cashback and good deals, then also taking advantage of the used market.
All in all, the Canon systems are what I am most satisfied with.

But my 5Ds kit does everything I could ever want, so I'm not going anywhere for now.

satisfied with my 90d for automotive, landscape and video shooting. Matched with tokina 11-20mm f2.8, Sigma 18-35mm f1.8, 50mm 1.8 and the 55-250mm f4-5.6 ef-s, got the whole zoom range covered.
stuck with canon for the ergonomics and speed that i can change settings, the camera gets out of the way and just lets you focus on shooting.
In a few years the obvious upgrade path is an R7 mark 2, mostly for video.
