It would. The shoe on the k1/kp is nothing but 1/8 thick plastic floating in air. On the k3 it’s attached directly to metal, like almost every other DSLR ever made.

The k1 was released under ricoh but the k3 series existed before and they’ve just been recycling the design and charging an arm and a leg for it. New fuji prices, canon rebel performance.

is it just me or did pentax totally stop innovating when ricoh bought them

they used to be what fuji is now, moderately innovative, pushing aps-c as the prosumer/hobbyist format and pushing medium format as the real full frame, and their stuff significantly outperformed fuji. now they're releasing gimped crop sensor DSLRs because "muh philosophy" and they have a really fucking shitty full frame camera. they designed a rugged tilting screen, and then left it off their newest and most expensive camera because a fixed screen is more rugged? when every competitor has a tilting screen? why?

it's slowed to a crawl. maybe one or two employees in ricoh actually like pentax, and they are actually pentax employee who have stayed with the brand across acquisitions. i have a feeling the K1 was meant to be medium format but ricoh thought it would be more profitable if it could use the still-accessible vintage (and often quite shit) FA glass and wasn't a premium product.

Hoya sucked the lifeblood out of Pentax and ditched the camera company part to Ricoh, Hoya is the reason why Pentax FF was delayed so much.

It figures since it has GPS on the top of the prismhouse, it can't see through metal.
With that said, on camera flash is cringe anyway, there is nothing of value produced by on camera flash. Off camera lighting is where it's at.

My Q knowledge is a bit lacking since I got out of it after the original. The Q-S1 seems to be the best one with a nice metal body and also the 1/1.7 sensor. The 01 lens is still better than the boring 02 zoom.

Yes the 06, which I haven't tried, is on my list of lenses to try for this system. I imagine it can do some nice portraits at the longer zoom range. The 03 fisheye I had was also good.

i bought 2 Pentax Q's in white, 2 prime 01 lenses, 2 02 standard zooms, and one 06 telephoto. I bought them now while i still can. I keep one spare, just in case.
The Wide Zoom is 600 bucks, which is overkill, but i am tempted to get it sometimes.

Also the original Q is just the best, great build quality, solid controls, indestructible. I hope hipsters wont inflate prices.

The sensor is bridge camera sized, an OVF would be tiny or dark as fuck from the magnification required. If there's a case for an EVF it's this, and it has one. Just a big one instead of one with an eyecup.

pixel density and lens quality are all that affect reach. without extremely high quality lenses, pixel density does not resolve small, far away details. it just makes the blurry image smoother. hence why micro four thirds is now defined by expensive lenses, the pentax Q is dead, and no one cares about the canon 90d.

Out of curiosity, I got another Q last week,10 years since I last had one. My impressions today are it's a bit... mushy. The sharpness and colors. I've been playing around with CCD Powershots lately and they seem to do better. I'll shoot some more in daylight and hopefully things start looking better.

I still have and use my pentax q-s1 with standard prime lens. Here's a recent pic I took.

My telephoto zoom died a few years back, been meaning to buy another. Maybe I'll buy another body+zoom kit. These lil cameras are amazing, I've only seriously considered replacing it with a GRIIIx with its similar 40mm equiv. lens

You can really only make the genuine comparison with the GM1, which was specifically designed to be that small like >>4152996. But that aside, yeah, other small 4/3 bodies come pretty close. I just don’t see how “muh reach” makes up for all the benefits of a larger sensor you don’t have.

I don't know why, but Pentax Q has a cult following that Panasonic does not. There's more to it than sensor size. Probably the design? Because it came out first? Who knows.

Because Pentax Q is built around being a small system, while MFT has some small bodies that get into Pentax Q territory (until you want equivalent focal lengths and it gets bigger).
Also Pentax Q is easy to adapt Pentax 110 lenses to.

Its just a fun camera, you can put it in any pocket using any of its lenses sideways. Image quality is great, 12mp is the sweet spot for images anyway. Lenses are top tier quality. And it has ibis, making it even more versatile.
Last month I got myself a used e-p7 and I am starting to like that camera, even though its a bit thicker.
Has great controls, is light, reasonably well built (but not as good as the pentax q), more battery life and you can charge it directly.
It also has the most recent 5 axis ibis as a cherry on top.
My only problem with the e-p7 is that it still uses microusb.

I didn't notice I chose pics I took an hour apart. The shadow angle is making you think the DR is better on the Q.
Here's how bad f/1.9 looks, at least with my lens. I'm not giving up quite yet, because I remember I enjoyed this camera before and I really like the handling right now. I have the 06 lens coming - hopefully it helps me pinpoint if it's my body or the lens that's off.

I got a Q10 straight out of Japan and my experience is a bit meh, but it might not all be the system's fault.

The camera itself, since it's from the moisty and humid Japan, smells like an old attic or basement and not even keeping the camera submerged in baking soda was able to neutralize the smell. I tried to also rub lemon juice all over it and it still smells like wet ass. It makes the handling of the camera so not nice and I really don't want to take it out with me.
Secondly I bought the 06 from like a chinese refurbish plant so I'm not sure if the lens is even original or what. The zoom works ok, but the focus ring turn with the slight breeze of someone's breath and it's a nightmare to handle. I do enjoy the small form factor thought and might look into some other similar long focal length in a small package deals and it's sickening me to finally consider micro 4 losers. Might just get a Q7 instead.
The camera wants me to input date and time every freaking time I turn it on and don't know how to fix this.
I set the camera to RAW+JPEG but somehow only JPEGs are being stored. Not sure what's happening here.
The stab is ass. Seriously. It's like this shit doesn't work at all.

I regret not getting it locally, but I'd have to pay close to triple the price here than what I paid by importing it.

Will try to get it out again next weekend, if the thread is still up by then. In the meantime enjoy some swans.

Keep a battery in it and swap it out as fast as possible when changing. The internal memory battery in yours is on its way out.

Olympus has the best ibis out there and if you want really compact get a e-pm2 before some youtube gearfaggot makes a video on it and bumps up the price. Its about the same size as a gm1 and actually has ibis while only being 3mm (or 10%) thicker.

Basically phones sensors and optics are too small to ever produce truly good pictures. You can’t cram a world of detail through such a tiny glass circle and on to a such a tiny silicon rectangle. These days they use AI to attempt to draw over the blurry shit with approximations.

Even a 1” sensor like on a sony rx100 does a better job unless a phone also has a 1” sensor (a few do, just not samshit and crapple normie phones)

Sensor size is the be all end all factor in image quality and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Brand new $2000 micro four thirds cameras still take worse pictures than 12 year old full frame DSLRs.

The Galaxy S10 and recent iPhones have 1/2.55" sensors, barely any smaller than the Q10's 1/2.3" sensor.
Brand new MFT cameras give 10 year old full frame DSLRs a run for their money, if you look at Canons.

its almost impossible to cram the physical space required for the glass of lenses onto a smartphone. At least not without having it stick out, which no one wants. Maybe you could make it work with a complex mirror setup internally, but you just hit the limits.
Even with a 1 inch sensor, without the optics to support it it will still be subpar compared to a dedicated camera.

My first digital camera purchase after finding one for 100 bucks in my area. Came with no lense but a shitton of adapters. Ended up getting an 02 zoom but im not really feeling it. Gonna get a prime since it seems like most people are happy with their results with that. Very cute camera though I just hope I can be very happy when I experiment with the prime lens and or some cheap stuff I can put on the adapters. I don't really wanna give up on this camera and go blow my dosh on something bigger since im already autistic on my other hobbies and this is more of an addon to my passtimes
