I REALLY REALLY want to take photos of the star and night sky, what camera and lens would be a good but portable combo? I won't be doing deep space or anything but I do want to be able to move around and not lug a big setup around. Does such a good combo exist?

SOVL: Bronica ETRS, light meter, notebook, pencil, charts
Soulless: Sony A7RIII or newer, 16-35 f2.8 or the 20/24mm g/gm primes, just check focus and exposure on the screen, all lenses focus past infinity so check that too with the magnifier mode.

For exposures 15 seconds and longer you need a star tracker to prevent star trails. Pentax tries to do it with ibis but low temperatures throw it off.

get an olympus with a wide angle of your choice. Laowa makes cheap and bright wide angles for example, or you get the new panaleica 9mm 1.7 for example.
Why olympus? because of the live composite mode which is great for long exposure and stars.

iphones have, by far, the worst cameras, and the worst everything. apple ships straight junk. worst software. shitty hardware. it's been a dead company since the end of steve jobs and it was never that great before that either. even if alternatives have their own flaws, nothing really compares to the absolute garbage that is apple.

they only exist because their shit is "sufficient" and people are too lazy to do research and thus buy on reputation alone (and get burned doing so, lol macbook pro reliability, lol bendy iphones, lol holding it wrong, etc).

just use a samsung galaxy.

if you wanna do the picrel thing, you gotta aim center of your viewfinder at the north star exactly
Also spare batteries recomennded coz that shit they put inside DSLR cameras depletes real fast especially if you do it in the cold environment.

Get the largest sensor you can. Get the most ample aperture lens you can. Get a tripod you're comfortable working with.
