Full Frame size is putting me OFF!

Sold my A6300 for a A7 IV.

My a7 IV / 24-70mm has been amazing to shoot with but i find myself less enticed to bring my camera out a lot of the time as it's so big. The value of it also makes me more hesitant as breaking it would be financially bad.

I think i'd take a lot more travelling pics and stuff with a pocktable camera. Is it really worth to have full fame over aps c or 1/3?

Sell my FF and get a smaller cam? or simply buy a good, pocketable APS-C? WHat do?

APS-C loses a stop or more of dynamic range. This is pretty huge (1 stop = double the light) especially when digital already lags behind the dynamic range of film by 10 stops (!). APS-C is, in other words, an inferior budget option.

aps-c is indeed not pocketable unless you want the ricoh GR dyson edition (all your pocket lint on your sensor within 2 days or your money back.) (dust removal is $300 per service)

micro 4/3 with a pancake lens is where "good" cameras get pocketable

I have an Olympus e-pl6 that I bought years ago, in hopes that it would be pocketable. Even with a lens cap lens this shit's not pocketable unless you're wearing loose cargo pants that are 6 sizes too big, just deal with having a camera strap around your neck and keep your current camera, or buy an RX100.

I believe Panasonic did technically make a 4/3 fixed lens compact (lx100 maybe?), but the spergs on photo sites are quick to hit you with the “WELL ACKSHUALLY, the sensor may be 4/3 size but it’s fixed lens so it’s not 4/3, bla bla bla”. if you set the acceptable SNR threshhold to "i can see more than grain", portra 160 has 24 stops of dynamic range.

the difference in SNR threshholds are why people will claim "this sony has 15 stops of dynamic range" "actually it has 13" or even say digital has more dynamic range than film, because the shadow detail on film is too noisy for them, in particular.

but in terms of details being visible at all:
film goes up past 20 stops of dynamic range and only full frame digital approaches 15 stops. aps-c is 13 to 14 depending on generation.

perhaps get a smol, lightweight prime nearest to your most used focal length? A7C kit lens if you want zoom?
or a pocket cam like GR3/X, RX100 variant, G5X II?
or add back a lighter milc, maybe A6400 weighs as A6300. XE4 weighs a bit more than A6K,
or sell A7IV and return back to apsc milc, or an A7C weighs as A6600.

FF is nice, but your reasons are what makes me still use an XF10, A6K as walkaround cams.

PEN-F with Panasoynic 20/1.7 isn’t as pocketable as smaller m43 bodies but it looks good on a strap.

Fullframe sensor area is 2.3x (2.6x for Canon crops) bigger than aps-c one which means 2.3 more light and therefore information. Basically you get 2.3 more ISO value with same amount of noise, so much better dynamic range on higher ISOs

Get a compact lens for it then. Sony Zeiss 55 1.8 is VERY compact for the quality it's delivers and that's a top notch quality

Yes you will shoot much more with a compact camera, that's a fact. Compactness brings you freedom
You could get Sigma 30 or 56 primes for your Sony crop (both are stunning lenses and very compact), but since you had sold it then you could get Fuji X100 camera. The hype worth it. It's a great APS-C camera with a high quality prime lens, could be carried in the pocket easily. Any of X100 models are good, even most old ones, so consider buy used, will cost you nealry nothing.

Also start finally using diffusion filters, it's 2023 already. Tiffen Glimmerglass 1 is great and produce very nice, but not too strong effect. Also you can consider to use CPL, it saturates colors. making them watercolor-like. ND is also makes composition more soft and pleasant.

Ricoh GR series is a great tool. Really great. But nearly all people are complaining that after a year of usage dust coming in through collapsable lens and you can clean it only in service. Otherwise, GR is a perfect machine for a street shooting

Bluemorphic - very cool, but I think soon a lot of people will know about it and it will become overused, so you'd better buy it first

I actually got both a 52mm Black Pro Mist 1/4 and Glimmer Glass 1 to test on my Fuji XT4 + Sigma 30mm. Deciding between those two since they were the most well documented options online from Tiffen and I generally preferred how all the Tiffen stuff looked when compared to options like the Cinebloom. Whatever one I like less will probably go back to Amazon, and I'll later get copies in other filter sizes of the one I prefer for primes I'm trying to be more stylized with.

You're not comparing equivalent setups, 70/2.8 is a 25mm aperture. Your crop cam is 50/5.6, a 9mm aperture. Of course it's much smaller.
