Today's the day we settle the debate once and for all, /p/. Is color photography better or is black and white photography better?

For me? It's color. In all cases. But I'll hear your arguments.

It's colour, ofc it is, colour makes my monkey brain go "haha cool yummy fruit colour"

Black and white looks bad with bayer cameras. You subconsciously expect it to be sharper from exposure to film but bayer blurs everything and the way the color transitions look help hide that blur.

that was shot on sony a1 with i think 1.8/55 ZA lens, not sure
image is actually suuuuper sharp
looks blurry because its a screenshot pasted into paint and then exported as JPEG lol
cant post the full file here because it has 489 trillion megabytes

I can't stick to one. I usually compromise by editing my raws in black and white to get the contrast and details that I like and then I add colors as a last step.

Anyone not shooting a mix of colour and black and white is a fucking idiot.

Your portfolio will look a lot more professional if it has both in it.

Colour only is like the 15 year old with all those coloured led fans on his pc, it might seem cool at 15 but once you grow a bit older you realise it’s a bit tacky.

Hmm, no. I think what anon means is she sets it to b&w, does edits, then turns off b&w. I've done that before when I want to tune the tones and lighting of the image without colours as a distraction.

The ultimate answer is it depends on the scene(s).
Orson Welles made sure to make Citizen Kane in black and white and then to prevent its colorization by Ted Turner for good reason.

Almost all of my pictures are monochrome because B&W films are much cheaper

Color has always been better. The only thing BW has going for it is nostalgia from pre-modern times, but even then the color photos had more charm

B/W photography could capture more detail that's why recon pics up to the 90s use B/W pic.

Nowadays with the rise of 100++ megapixel digital camera the argument became irrelevant

*Except when the colour picture is taken via RGB filter separation technique as demonstrated in pic related
