Hey /p/,

Has anyone ever tried shooting Super8 in their 35mm film camera? I've done 35mm in a medium format and that's really cool, like exposed sprockets and shit, but it's getting kinda expensive and medium format camera is so bulky. So I was wondering if i could acheive the same thing with super8 film in a 35mm camera?

Will my lab be able to develop super 8? is it the same as c41?

ok so apparently that doesn't exist, wtf?? missing out on a huge market but whatevs... apparently cinestill is made from this shit and can c41 dev it, but do I need to do the remjet removal bath before I expose it? or before developing it? how do i do that then take it to a lab to develop it? you'd think a lab could do that easily, its not like its their full time job lol, whatevs, I'll figure it out and let you know

a friend of mine says c41 still develops it just kills the chems in the process, so it seems like i don't even have to worry about the remjet?

if this isn't b8, no. it's not quite that simple. You can indeed develop ECN film in C41 chemicals. the ECN process is a lot more complex and involved and produces better results for movie film, but c41 will do a fine job.

If you do it at home, the remjet could likely mess up the chemicals, but as far as I know, it's not ruining them chemically, it's just the fact that the remjet backing is turning into goop in there. Typically people try to remove it in a pre bath before developing. Not fully sure but I think I've heard of people developing normally and then wiping the remjet off after, it doesn't necessarily come off during development, if you do it in a tank.

BUT, and this is the most important part, labs use machines with rollers. If they are not set up to process ECN film, and your remjet film gets into the machine, the remjet will turn to goop and it WILL fuck up the rollers on their machine, it will fuck up the chemicals, and it will fuck up other people's film. They will have to shut down to clean it and if I recall correctly someone has been sued over sneaking ECN film into a C41 lab. I think it was a pretty big payout too, I don't remember where I saw it.

Long story short, you can use C41 at home to process. Do not bring ECN film to a lab. If they notice they should just not develop it but if it somehow gets through it's bad for everyone involved.

And of course there are labs that will process ECN but it's more expensive.

ok, i found this video on how to remove the remjet, i guess i'll try it out, can't believe a lab can't wash film before they dev it though, maybe need to find a better lab

I want to try the same with black and white and home dev so I don't annoy any labs.
It is also a lot smaller so I had the idea of taping 3 rolls side by side which should give me the ideal width. My camera has a pentacon loading system so it will pull on the film even without sprockets.
