This is such a difficult topic because Leica is kind of just... weird. Not good, not bad, but just completely perverted kind of company.
So they have this undying M-mount interchangeable lens system. They are really great, at least all of them are sharp in the center wide open, and their users have come up with all sorts of ways to describe their superiority, from pleasant color casts to microcontrast and rendering, and they are all compact so as to not block rangefinder viewing hole, and have the necessary coupling and manual focus to go with it.
And the bodies are typically released with state of the art sensors, sometimes in bespoke configurations like the monochrome, nothing else has that sensor but Leicas and custom conversions.
But the rangefinder mechanism, nostalgic as it may be, is the source of all the troubles for them, it makes the system revolve around 28-35-50mm focal lengths, wides come with their own wider viewfinder with well wishes and zone focus instructions, and telephoto, I suppose you have frame lines for that, may your aim be true.
Then the interface that is trying to stay true to film days and deny all and any chimping and live view. After all, if photographer had a choice of live view with focus peaking, would they be able to truly enjoy rangefinder experience? Doubt.
It's really made for very few people that like all of that, you really can't fake it, those that can't deal with the suffering went for SL or just some other system, maybe compact SLR.
