But compact in my mind is rx100/griii size. If you’re happy going bigger than that, then just go with a cheap full frame body and a chinkshit ultra wide to start like a Rokinon or something. See if you actually like it before you invest more heavily. Good night/star photography is typically done with wide or ultra wide and fast lenses, and proper brand names versions of those get expensive fast. That’s not getting into things like star trackers and specialty mounts and all that jazz. So really, two questions, what do you define as compact, and how seriously do you want to capture stars?
