why shouldnt I just let the camera figure out the iso and the shutter speed, leave the white balance set to to 0 and only fuck with the aperture and the manual focus

If I need to make any changes I can just edit the image in software, convice me it's a bad idea to get out of the way and let the equipment take care of all the bullshit I don't want to trouble myself with

I guess no reason if you are literally just bullshitting around taking pictures of nothing with no sort of intent. Do you want to freeze action at night? Better have a decent shutter speed. Also don't forget that the X-T2 has an ISO limit that you pretty much need to set up because their autoexposure is too retarded and will crank ISO because it's broken. Don't forget it'll override your shutter speed setting, too, so you could literally set your shutter speed to 1200 and if the camera can't expose right with the hard "auto ISO limit" it'll just fuck off your shutter speed settings and change them anyway.

There are a billion other reasons, but basically, if you have a specific thing you want to capture and you rely on your camera to get it, it's going to fuck you sooner rather than later.

The ultimate goal is to learn what your camera's program mode wants to do. Trust it and know how to work around it when needed. Some are better than others. For example, it may know to raise shutter speed at longer focal lengths and to open the aperture up when you're focusing on something nearby (like a portrait).

Sometimes you should. Don't be afraid of anything on your camera, but don't depend on it either. Use the setting that does what you want.

Personally, I find shutter priority and aperture priority modes to be highly under-appreciated. It's nice to be able to take control of everything and tweak it just the way you want it to be, but if you shoot animals, live events, freelance news, or anything where you have one chance at the shot it's nice to be able to nail it into boogie, change the one thing you care about, and start spraying.

In conclusion, learn both.

If it takes you more than 10 seconds to adjust shutter speed / aperture / iso on the fly, you are very stupid and don’t understand exposure

anyways, at least based on how it looks in my phone, the highlights are clipping (or very close to it) in the sky in that photo, and you don’t know how to introduce mid tone contrast, so you should learn to both expose and edit correctly before deciding other people are dumb for manually exposing

Which I think sums it up very nicely.
Now in full disclosure I hike around in aperture mode a lot, but I’ve noticed times the camera chooses shitty ISO’s and distorts my creative vision. There are a few times I’ve been mad at myself for not bringing a tripod and locking out my iso, and having the ability to stitch several photos together due to a hard back lit scene, and that I’ve had to clumsily try to force a manual setting through the automatic wants of the camera, while hand holding it on mile 13 of a hike.

So while automatic modes are good, to be great you also need to understand how your fuckin tool works too for the more unique compositions
