He never was in the first place. He once mentioned - a while after leaving DRTV, that he wanted his channel to take a different route and 'maybe' step away from creating exclusively photography-related videos. He probably realized that he's got no other chance to be successful on YT so he kept on making videos about cameras and photography.

DRTV only was successful because of the scripted videos. They had a good team back then.

To me his whole solo thing feels like he thought he had the audience, “they’re watching this for me” kind of thing, but he didn’t actually, cause his channel hasn’t really grown, he hasn’t really become influential as a reviewer of camera guy, and he doesn’t really post work or anything, it’s just mid AF.

Kek, same. You can tell most people are just subbed to him to be nice... just look at the comments on his videos. Nobody adds anything relevant or builds on the subject matter, it's just variations of "love you!" and "hope you're having fun!"
