The entire camera industry HATES YOU.

The high end camera market is shrinking. Those that are still paying out the ass for new cameras are either forced to, or really bad with money. Size and handling went out the window, unless you use massive zooms on the sidelines of an NFL game, then they improved. Costs are skyrocketing. Lenses are getting fatter. Shutters are getting faster. None of us care. And now this. Because the camera industry
hates you
in particular. You are the hobbyist. Go use your phone. They don't want you business. You don't buy a new camera every year to keep your warranty fresh or to stay hired.

But I'll help, which would you rather have:
Option #1:
>lock out features by hardware crippling
>have to manufacture both a lower and higher end SKU
>economy of scale works less, both will cost more
>if later you decide you actually need the feature then you have to buy a whole new body
Option #2
>lock out features by software crippling
>manufacture one SKU
>economies of scale apply more loweing unit cost, can price more competitively
>don't have to buy a whole new body if you need said feature later

That said if a feature like that is locked behind a subscription fee instead of a one-time purchase then that is just unforgivable kikery, no excuses in that case.
