Some compact cameras have sensors the size of a gnats dick others are hobbled with a boring-ass 35mm equivalent fixed focal length, but all of them make compromises somewhere.
The G1Xiii has a bit of barrel distortion at the wide end, but it is an easy fix, and a comparatively slow but otherwise excellent lens. Stabilization is good and a skilled user can still achieve those arty farty fuzzy wuzzy background if they really must.
You choose your compact camera based on the compromises you are willing to make but the G1Xiii is still the most capable all rounder ever made. Unfortunately they reached that zenith at the point where compacts are becoming less profitable so it is probably the last of its breed.
