Ive tried multiple lenses with direct light sources without getting a perfect ring like that. On 5219 film, the direct successor of the stock used here.

It's a filter, not a lens.
I've got an old vintage filter that creates starbursts. I have no idea what they are called, halation filters or something?

Most vintage lenses can produce them due to element setup or quality.
There is a newly produced chink lens that was made specifically for a huge circular flare.

They made a whole bunch of different ones. I have a starburst one.
The one used here is a white mist filter.
They are called halation filters.You ultracrepidarian

from what i remember reading on forums, this was a product of the old panavision spherical lenses in the late 70s to 80s, on anamorphic you get a stretched version of the same effects. i would play around with vintage lenses with no coating and try filter stacking

It's 100% a vintage lens thing. I have several old M42 lenses that produce the effect. Look into what lenses were used in the films you see it in.
