what are the best lenses for filmmaking/cinematic video, and why are they the Canon FDs? I took a leap of faith and purchased a 35mm and 85mm for my S5 for my next film project, and I'm absolutely blown away. the colors pop so vibrantly, so much detail, feels like the lenses genuinely see better than my own eyeballs. i'm looking into a 17mm (or wider if i can find one) to round out my set.

maybe it all depends on personal taste, we are all different after all so maybe it just depends on what people prefer. also, this doesn't include anamorphic. my own personal feeling is that lenses were already perfected in the 70s and that the need for companies to keep producing, keep innovating, etc just makes new lenses perform worse because there are more elements to the body of the construction, more glass etc so we just have reversed diminishing returns at this point.

i claim FD superiority but i'm curious what everyone might think
