I never went through my gearfag phase because I was was a "gear doesn't matter" type of pretentious faggot. Now I have realized that how important gear is, right tools for right job! But I don't know shite about gear and tech so I am stuck in midwit phase AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

It is due to rampant gearfagging on this board. All of this gear shilling is enough to repel any sane photographer. I wonder how many innocent lambs of God have skipped their gear phase due to gear rampant gearfaggotory. Fuck.

Literally doesn't matter as long as it's not overtly terrible and getting awful reviews everywhere. Buy based on budget, focal length and aperture and nothing else unless something really jumps out at you as an important characteristic.

Buying gear because you think it will do all the work for you and make you a good photographer is retarded.

Buying gear because you can afford quality or specific looks or you want to try out different styles of cameras (e.g. slr vs rangefinder) is based because it can open your mind and push you in new directions.

Thank you for your replies anons. Cameras are cool but I am talking about the "general" gearfagging autism like having tons of knowledge about different type of focal length lenses, understanding about their character, knowledge about lights/gels/filters, printers and papers etc. This sort of thing.

Literally just buy a $50 china flash and some cheapo modifiers and use them. Or just a few chinese LED panels. It’s not high fashion photography is it? Key light, fill light, hair light, skim light, backlight, figure it out.

Renting isn't a bad idea if you're really on the fence with something. Some places will apply the rental fee towards the purchase if you do decide to pull the trigger. There's a ton of shit I've bought, only to use for a month then end up selling. Really easy to trick yourself into thinking that if you get xyz piece of gear then everything will be that much better. Problem is, renting for a short time back then, when I didn't really know what I want or need, only would've made me want something more. It took a long time for me to figure out my actual needs, and what fits within my approach to shooting and workflow.
M11 is a great camera for some people, but a terrible choice for most. If you're on the fence, M11 probably aint for you, but I'd rent or look at used M10-R/M10-M before going all-in.
