You get better end results by editing RAW files, always.

No. Why would it be "cheating"? It's harder to get decent photos that way if anything. Just shoot whatever way you want to.

My X-T3 has a lot of them, but I haven't really used them so I can't name a favorite.

with lolympus, I shoot in raw but the exact same jpeg modes are available in the olympus software, that way you can use your cameras jpeg modes after you take the picture, i think you can set them in camera as well after you take the shot. i was more just wondering if anyone actually shoots in jpeg for the modes/challenge of it. I heard fuji has good jpeg modes.

RAW + JPEG Basic.
The JPEG is more than adequate for 90% of what you'll use the camera for, and you've always got the RAWs in case you shoot something cool or forget to change your settings for a job.

I shoot raw+jpeg. Having a medium sized, fine quality jpeg makes checking focus in-camera much faster and sometimes it will look good enough for social media.

Sony colors without a picture profile look like actual shit. As bad as fuji but in a more eye-raping way instead of disappointment. Movie gamma + pro color mode + saturation up, black level down makes it better.

I don't mind having to shoot without a picture profile for E shutter because those are usually images i'll process raws for (bursts when shooting moving animals, they get cropped at least) and capture one's colors for my camera look better than my camera's colors for itself.

I use RAW+JPEG.

I take "memory pictures", documentation photos for my work and "artistic photos".

When I revise memory pictures I trash almost all the raws, but from time to time I keep some that are worty to print.
I keep all the raws that I take for work untill the specific work is done, then I trash them. Sometimes is really useful to have the raw to recover exposure or things like this.
I alwais post produce "artistic photos" and I also keep the raws.

In all the case it's really convenient to have jped because they are ready to be sensed to ther people, to the phone and so on.
Also, I'm too lazy to change the setting and I would forgot it.

I've started doing this recently since it seems like whatever camera or program I open a RAW in, it doesn't look like what I captured with the camera. The JPEGs generally look like the scene itself, so I've had to start using them to document.

Also the default Windows photo viewers keeps trying to "enhance" RAW photos. It pisses me off.

I'm not sure it does. Even if it did, I turned off all kinds of logging and telemetry inside the registry editor and policy editor. Before that, those greedy fucks were even sending off info about whatever you plugged into your USB ports.

I'd move to Linux but it would my day to day work too difficult. And with MacOS, it would be the same problem as Windows.

RAW+JPEG. I'm frequently working as one part of a larger project and its nice to have 1) the entire RAW file so I can go back and process the pictures that end up mattering while 2) having an immediate "free sample" to look at while we're deciding which pictures matter. Being able to just send/stream an unprocessed jpeg and be like "would a slightly nicer version of this picture work?" goes a very long way towards saving time on not processing the ones that won't.

I only archive raw also though I do cull to a tight selection. When I need a specific shot I will edit and output according to what Is required.

I use built-in raw conversion as my way of reviewing and processing images. I'm taking all kinds of photos in RAW, then once i have a moment, I sit down somewhere and review them all on camera. I remove shit takes, for remaining ones I'm adjusting WB, exposure, colors, sometimes giving it a tiny little bit of crop. Jpegs go to hard drive, then memcard gets emptied and all raws go away.

It's restrictive, but also surprisingly enjoyable, and in the end this is all i want from my camera funsies as an amateur. Rarely I end up taking something I want to process in LR, but then I have a RAW for it, so nothing's ever lost. On the downside, shitty little camera screen often hides overall photo quality and then the photo I liked turns out to be bad on big screen, but such is life I guess.

Oh yes, JPEG styles are great and I like to experiment with them to see which setting fits the scene. My favourites are probably B&W, vivid blue (pic related) and slide film.

Don't know, haven't ever used them. I will say the bundled input profiles are pretty good tho.

Shooting RAW + JPG is dumb bc basically all RAW files have the fine jpg embedded in them, so it's a waste of space on your card when shooting. They can be extracted later if needed. I usually discard them when converting my RAWs to DNGs to save a bit on space.

Yes, because the result is always better if i adjust the settings in camera than in post for some reason. I think that this whole "YUO HAF TO SHOOT RAW WHAT ARE YOU SOME KIND OF NOOB?" thingie is a remnant from when the processing was worse. Newest gen cameras have excellent jpgs.

I quite like the SOOC jpegs for doing a few quick adjustments on my phone before posting to social media.
The Classic Negative profile on Fuji cameras actually slaps once you shift the white balance and boost the saturation.
I'll always process the raw files of my favourites after I get home though

I configure my JPEG output to be as neutral as possible, and I tend to use Auto WB or set it manually (simplistic, like daylight or incandescent nothing really inbetween) but I always shoot RAW+JPEG because ~50MB/photo is worth it.

People who shoot RAW only have autism. There's value behind instaJPEGs as previews or quick use. "Standard" mode on most cameras is configured poorly and will overcook everything from contrast and saturation and sharpening and noise reduction though so you have to be careful.

Eh, it's a bit exaggerated but not too far off compared to real film grain imo, I've certainly seen worse while shooting Portra 800.
Pic related is C200 @ 100 ISO and the grain pattern is fairly similar

The grain basically disappears into the details with real film instead of being overlaid on everything equally. It's easy to forget it's there.

I personally use that option mostly because when I browse the files later in my computer through the SD card it loads JPEG miniatures faster and they have the same names as the RAW files, so I sort by file type and look through the JPEGs choosing which ones to import to lightroom and which ones to discard.

Little offtopic but what software do you use for file management? I started to shoot with RAW+Jpeg and with burst mode, suddenly finding I have thousands of photos per day and they take tons of space.

Is there a software that automatically detects blurry photos and can mark favourites and delete both RAW and Jpeg at the same time?
