The death of point&shoot cameras probably hurt them a lot, but it's likely the scandal is a big part of the reason the camera brand got sold to a PE firm. Very likely that Olympus had way way less money than they claimed. Being Japan though, that means the company will basically keep running until the last Olympus engineer retires, even if as little more than a warranty shop.
