What is the best camera or method to get an image of my eyes with the best possible quality and resolution?

I don't know anything about photography and was not interested in this science until now. I need to do this for an important research paper

macro lens or macro extension tubes, lots of light e.g. flash or strobe, any old camera will do
if its a research paper you'll need to cite a source for methodology, which means you need to read the citation, which means you're wasting your time here when you should be on google scholar or a library

Any camera/lens combo that will get you a magnification of at least 1:1, preferably 2:1. That would have to be a macro lens.

Make sure to invest in a good lighting setup.

Past certain point, it doesn't really matter, you just get features you don't need, like high iso performance, IBIS, burst rate, battery life. Anything with decent DR and 50-ish MP will most likely ouresolve the lens anyway.
Unless you would prefer to use B&W sensor + color filers, in which case there is't much choice anyway.

The GFX100s has an IR version sold specifically for medical, military, and scientific applications (it had to be partially re-engineered because an internal IR diode controls the shutter)
