primes are a lot better, though if you need a zoom, you can use the longer reach and the IS, you care about compactness and you don't need always accurate AF in low light the 24-105 is a good lens for the price, and I'm told the 2nd version is a significant improvement
if you don't need the reach and could use a slightly better quality zoom get the 24-70 f/2.8, and if IQ is the most important consideration get primes
