Can you anons tell me why I would need a tilt-shift lens if I can just edit the picture to look like it directly in camera?
My only use for a tilt-shift lens would be for miniaturization of towns and cities.

P.S pls rate pic and tell me how to improve it.

That's true. Who would want to spend time fiddling with a tilf-shift lens, they're so garbage.
For the price of a tilt-shift lens you can buy yourself an iPhone and use their software filter to achieve this same look.

yeah but you could just shoot at small aperture so everything is in focus and then do it.
isnt the real reason people use tilt shift to reduce distortion for architectural shoots? i know you can fix this in post really easily but you lose quality around the edges

You can do in post but you need to shoot wider than your intended final frame to make sure you get everything you want. By using a t/s lens you can see the final composition as you shoot.

There is no denying that you can not recreate every optical effect of a tilt/shift lens in the real world by editing. You would introduce other limitations or effects and therefore fail to recreate it. Therefore there is a practical reason to have one. As for need, there is no such thing. You do not even need to be alive, by scientific metrics.

these are so fucking unconvincing if you know how a ts works, look at anything that is long vetically like the lamppposts or fenceposts, the focal plane would still be perpendicular to the ground, this obviously just adds blurred bars at the top and bottom of the frame regardless of geometry in the shot

It doesn't even look that much like a miniature, it looks like you blurred half the image. As soon as someone posts a real image from their cheap chinese tilt shift the gig is up. It's like using fake bokeh, people will pick up on the subtleties like the cutout effect.

I'd truly appreciate if you or anyone in this thread could post a tilt shift miniaturization pic for me. Was thinking of getting a TTArtisan 50mm 1.4, but then found out it was only for mirrorless cameras. Really want a 50mm and a tilt shift, so this would've ben a great combination. Sadly there are no adapters for a Canon RF to EF because mirrorless is retarded.

Could you also comment and rate my pics?
I really wanted this to be a photo thread, but no one posts.

I did these years ago with a lens with movement I made myself by using a medium format lens and rubber lens hood that went between camera body and lens. Only took it out a couple of times, but it was kinda fun.

I'm not claiming my examples here are good, after a couple of days experimenting I realised that relying on gimmicks is not how I feel I need to shoot to make my work interesting, but coming up with the DIY idea, executing it and going out to take photos was fun. A hell of a lot more fun than sitting in piss stained underwear on Photoshop doing a dumbass fad from a decade ago because you've never had an original idea or tried harder than doing something that needed a couple of clicks on your wankstation 7000.

of course a tilt shift lens would do that, the super shallow DOF together with the very abrupt DOF falloff, excessive background blur a normal lense wouldn't be able to produce at these distances and the angle the miniature photos are usually taken at are the reason your brain thinks they look like miniatures.
Anyway, that was just a screenshot from a youtube video as you can clearly see, watch the video and watch the camera operator move focus around. It's precisely why I picked that example, with photos you never know if it's an elaborate photoshop job or real, video with moving focus you can't fake as easily.
