DIY developing

been trying to do a caffenol delta-recipe dev on my Ilford HP5+ B&W 135

managed to actually get images but the film still comes out completely opaque so I can't scan it like a normal negative, is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

the left, for reference, was developed in an actual lab. roll from the same pack, shot on the same camera with the same settings.

Developer:
>15 grams instant coffee
>8 grams washing soda
>7 grams vitamin C
>350 mL of room temp water (68F)
>mix, poor, and stir for 10 minutes
>dump and rinse 4-5 times

Fixer:
>1 part Ilford Ilfosol 3 fixer
>9 parts room temp water
>poor and stir for 6.5 minutes
>dump and rinse 2-3 times
>dry overnight and scan with DIGITNOW 22MP all-in-1

First thought I accidentally exposed it somehow, second time made extra sure there was absolutely zero light (doing in a black bag in a windowless basement with no lights on at night) still same result

This. I'd suggest using potassium metabisufite (E224 food preserver, well stocked brewing shops) and maybe potassium hydroxide (some brands of drain opener powder are 99% pure KOH) for Parodinal instead of sodium.
For fixer, just buy thiosulphate fixer powder, it's cheap and alternatives do not work well.
(Suggest getting a big bottle of Rodinal clone proper at same time for reference. Its inexpensive and stores indefinitely.)

is Ilfosol 3 really the problem? it seems very widely used so I can't image it caused this unless I'm using it wrong

apparently fog can be removed with benzotriazole so I'll try that:

wish I knew how to fix the recipe so it wouldn't do this though

At what temperature are you developing? Are you matching the room temp water (68F) like you mentioned? You might need to heat it up more.

I had success with beerol, but I needed to heat that up to 90F

I mean my results certainly weren't as clean as a more traditional developer, but no fogging. My results were just pretty grainy.
