I hate to admit it but for years I've been just applying goofy film pre-sets and playing with sliders until I get something that I think looks good (on my uncalibrated gaming monitor).

I want to finally start to edit with a clear purpose but I don't know how to start.

The tutorials I could find either focus on making dramatic looking landscape photographs or studio photography. I'm more interested in the kind of editing art and reportage photographers do.
