>>4186167Seen it plenty of times. Look up inversion weather phenomenon. You really don't need to be very high to get it, I had it as low as 800m. Clouds just need to be low, in fact they're properly classified as fog in this situation. More common in winter, and in cold weather. It's slightly rarer for the sunsets, since clouds will usually disperse by that time, but I've even had it for a whole day as well. When you see fog forecast, you will see it as long as you go high enough. Or, if you're lazy, you can just check live webcams of some huts or peaks in the morning. It's not great photo-ops going for clouds view, the best shooting opportunities are just slightly below the fog level, at the time sun starts to come through it, and it begins to disperse the fog. Light there is truly spectacular. Fantastic for woodland and portraiture photography.
