Can anyone explain why the lens on the left is priced way more than the one on the right given that they have similar specs?

people are willing to pay 700$ more so the "DX" isn't in the branding of the lens. nothing else

the lens on the left is nikons top tier lens ("s" designation) with a full frame image circle
the lens on the right is a plastic lens targetting a price point with a crop sensor image circle

Because the one on the right is a 36mm f2.8 equivalent due to the crop image circle, it's also built to be a budget lens.

A koenigsegg regera and a ford Mustang both have 4 wheels and a 5 litre V8.

The one on the right is an APS-C lens.

On the left is a FF lens, with much better optical quality, build quality and weather sealing.
