Your argument taken to its extreme seems to imply we all need to back to using hole cameras or whatever the most primitive thing was, because those were used at one point and they were apparently used (because they were seeing use).
What I'm talking about is the perceived happiness G1 + N > G2 but G1 > G2 in a significant and meaningful way, where G1 and G2 are goodness for the respective lenses and N is nostalgia.
I'm talking about not even wanting to trade the original for the new one, for free, but I couldn't bother buying the new one without selling the first one.
A very conflicting thing is I would use the new one every time but once I get that there is no reason to use the old one and it is dumb to have it collecting dust anyway.
