So after zeiss was split up between east and west, east zeiss became pentacon.

Wouldnt that mean that all those nowadays very cheap Pentacon lenses are actually really good? They follow standard zeiss formulas from what i've seen.

how tf is that possible. prewar designs continued to be manufactured after fall of the third reich, through the transitional period of occupation, and into the era of DDR.
e.g. I have personally seen a trioplan that was made in DDR
not disputing that tooling was sent to russia, but clearly not all of it.

It was always Kiev, the other examples are interesting as they are translations although it is Suomi and it is Deutschland.
The english language just likes to mess around along with some latin ones which default into the roman names rather than the local names.

Not just english, all languages have a lot of different ways to spell names.

In swedish for example, France (officially Française) is called "Frankrike", and in Bulgarian its called "фpaнция" (Francia) which is kinda untranslateable 1:1 because its a completely different fucking alphabet.

Thats four vastly different names for the same place.

I have a Super TL and I do love it but it gets shit on by an original Nikon F all day. If you want to shoot with Communism it's fairly nice and the Meyer Optic Gorlitz lens is good, but as quality is concerned, it's Communist goyslop

"Kiev" is transliterated from russian, "Kyiv"-from Ukrainian. Easy as. Should be "Kyїv" - it's perfect phonetically and English has the "ї" but I guess it looks too scary

you have to be memeing. Everything I got from them was rubbish; from lenses to bodies.. the Kiev 88 being the worst experience Ive had with a camera. All 3 of them broke shortly after I got them.

All the foreign aid is merely guns that are roughly on the same technological level as russia's, as ukraine didn't have much else except for old soviet shit, so russia is getting their asses kicked just because the weapons are just as good, by a smaller country.

The real point is to watch russia bleed themselves dry while simultaneously destroying ukraine and revive it as a military puppet state closer to iran in case israel goes back on being our greatest ally, which was also russia's goal so they could gain more warm water port access and proximity to israel in case iran wanted to finally play ball.
