Cats are another matter. Cats are art. The dog gives, it is a filthy drooling slave, a malleable block of stinking clay laced with shit. The cat is divine inspiration, a force of nature. It takes true skill and artistry to photograph a cat. Cats are up there with the landscape photography of ansel adams. Butt sniffing, barking, shit eating mutts are down there with the random snapshots of winogrand.
Throw a stick and the filthy stinking mutt will trip over itself to bring it back to you. Your house stinks like death and your children will be mauled sooner or later.
But the cat will do whatever it wants. The dog obeys. The cat is free. Dogs are equipment. Cats are animals.
