Call me a loser, disregard my opinion, etc - BUT I firmly believe that portrait photography is the easiest photography, and street photographers are basically posers. Portrait photography of any kind is basically like a cheat code to give a picture some character, because you're making the subject about a human living their life. The pictures come out dull imo, just stupid snapshits every time.

Imo a good photographer doesn't focus on one atmosphere, and tries to purposefully find character and interest in something other than humans. It shows boldness as well as an understanding of the true nature of character and time.

Tldr; portrait and street photographers are ostentatious and shouldn't be taken seriously

It works because extroverts, narcissists (aka women and low t men), and consumate tv/hollywood addicts, which adds up to probably 2/3 of people, are instinctive gossip machines. They see a hooman, they start asooman. It’s why they are so fucking insufferable to be around for the first few days but eventually level out as they figure out reality and put it where their gossip was

But if you just show them a picture their brain has a blast assoooooming what that person is like.

Then the other 1/3 that isn’t covered there, almost exclusively male/lesbo, is mostly coomers who like looking at pretty girls.

Portraiture especially of women is photographic candy and pedestrian snaps are photographic alcohol.

People get the feeling that you are trying to set up an opportunity where you call them a tasteless snapshitter afraid of people because they don’t enjoy 28mm-and-run so this never happens

This also happens when people shit on fujifilm cameras but not other brands. “Post a photo so i can judge if you can have that opinion” “go first? Nooooo…”

I'm proud to see that the "nophoto" thought-terminating cliche is routinely being called into question nowadays. Maybe the level of the discourse can finally improve now. It was never anything other than a tool to silence disagreement of any kind. Post a photo and then the conversation is derailed. A while ago I posted some review shots of the K-3 III to see how the photo beggars reacted. They started criticizing the car in the pictures, saying it was a poorfag car and whatnot k3k. Begging for photos is never done in good faith on this board, and that's why one should never post a photo to those people.

and people eat it up. if you want to know why, imagine the same amount of effort and creativity went in but it was a portrait of a rock on a pedestal instead of a woman. suddenly no one cares.

people are more likely to think even bad lighting is good if the model is good so is the photographer really just the artist, or the muse for the models posing so she is the real artist?

Anon, those are generic portraits. Portraits can be creative. Approach it like cinema, and it becomes art photography. Like Crewdson does. What that means is craft an image, make it rather than take it. Makeup, wardrobe, lighting, filters, background, props.
