What material value do you get over using instagram as a primary gallery over a website that does not reserve the full rights with no payable royalties to everything you post? You have no control if meta wants to use your stuff for their own zine or something. They can make millions off an ad featuring your photo and you have no legal recourse. It's in their EULA.

The ads are what pisses me off the most. I barely see anything from anyone I'm following and just get shitty ads or recommended pages forced on me.

I feel you. I'm off Instagram now, but I haven't sought out photographers in real life to discuss things with. There's a photo club and an art center in town which I could join, but the photo club is boomer-tier "let's take photos of the sunset" type of stuff and joining the art center feels a bit pretentious. I'm not social enough to strike up conversations with other photographers.

Me it's 50/50. I'm currently working on my nerves to shoot random people portraits. I've noticed a big difference in the States vs here in the Netherlands were people are a bit more suspicious when you want to take a photo of them. Having an analog camera helps a lot though

idk what the labs do with their scans. i will look and see if i can disable the sharpening or smth on my scanner, but its super bare bones with its settings. only thing i do on the scanner s/w is quality settings. i do already put my stuff through lr/darktable for color grading and touch ups but perhaps i should take some more time doing it. i also didn't do that process until like maybe the last two months of posts, so pretty much anything from march-back is what the labs gave me.

Thank you! All the photos on the website were shot on film. No major editing, at most I remove dust specks and apply some minor color correction if the lab really fucks up the negatives.

To me, you don't always need a supermodel to do a good portait, what you should do is instead have the photos lean in to their personality as a good portait photo is a reflection of their character, not their physique
But as for the lenses, I'm thinking the sigma 18-35mm lens or the tamron 24-70 g2, but I don't know which is better. The sigma is cheaper but supposedly the tamron has better bokeh, but I since I have neither of them, I don't know which is better

Someone kept over buying instagram ads that wouldn't go away from my feed. The meta is reels and at least an upload a day of a regular photo. Hashtags were recently fucked but it doesn’t hurt since some people follow hashtags for new stuff. Literally the most basic reels will get a crap ton of views if you make it right.
