And I mean rich. These guys sprayed and prayed several dozen rolls a day when a roll of 35mm was $30+ adjusted for all economic factors. Photographers like steven shore who literally took photos of streets were not famous for their content, but because he used one of the most expensive film formats available, and had the personal endorsement of the most famous and highest paid photographer in the world at the time. Otherwise if he took the same photos on a cheaper camera and never hung out with rich kids you wouldn't know his name.
Although you can say there's some novelty in the image quality of using costlier cameras, or shooting volumes and capturing small moments few man had the wallet to bother with, looking back it's on the artistic level of a shitty statue of a chicken being better because it's made out of gold, historical context aside it was cool but not good.
