its pure lomography. 35mm is already cheap and low quality, half frame is even softer and grainier so your gear starts to become part of the content and composition and i oppose that on principle. cameras should be capable of a perfect capture and the artist should decide exactly how to recreate reality from there.

This much is correct but MFT is basically 110 format. Minox would be more like 1/1.2" sensors (found on the Nokia 808 phone)

Feels flimsy in the hand, I lost half my first roll when the latch for the back opened (snagged on my jacket pocket as I took it out). A bit of tape over the latch fixed that. The lens is ok and it's very easy to carry everyday compared to the Pen FT because of the size of the lens.

Hey, Agat 18k is a perfectly versatile (unless lowlight) camera once you print out and actually use the manual-provided aperture/shutter speed combo table and a lightmeter for correct exposures, use the built-in depth of field scale properly, have a coldshoe accessory rangefinder for correct focus and remember to account for the viewfinder being tilted approx. 12% from what the lens actually renders and that the brilliant framelines are tighter than the actual image area. A bad workman blames their tools, anon. A good workman shoots a couple rolls autistically and then finds a Konica AA-35 in a box of disc film cameras for $5 :^)
Like I said, perfectly fine tiny lightweight camera with perfectly decent optics.

i recommend staying the fuck away from any of the rangefinder or viewfinder cameras. once the novelty wears off nothing compares to reflex or looking through the lens via a good EVF. ORFs are a shitty and outdated mechanism and only persisted because they were easier to design lenses for at least for a little while.

Anyways owning a minolta 7si and for a little while a rollei 35t is enough to turn me off from using the PnS-y anything. It's tiny but also too big at the same time. Go SLR or go home. If you can't find a good auto-reflex, film's not really that expensive anyways tbqhfamalam and not having half frame is better than not having a real viewfinder.

While reflex is nice, the reflex half-frames leave a lot to be desired. The Samurai is terrible even though the ergonomics are camcorder-tier and a godsend.

I had a Pen F for a while but I found it weirdly soulless to use. It's tiny and fiddly and the offset lens makes it annoyingly un-ergonomic. I much prefer the fixed-lens Pens (I have an EES-2, picrel) which still have fantastic lenses but in a more convenient shape. I agree with the pictures being kino though. Cinestill + half-frame is a recipe for SOVL

Fun fact, the first 35mm stills camera was "full frame" despite being what we now know as half frame, the American Tourist Multiple. Before Leica revolutionized cameras, full frame meant the same as in cinema. 35mm still photography owes everything to cinema, it's its direct descendant. 35mm was first and foremost a cinema format that was later adapted to still photography. Then still photography paid its due to cinema when VistaVision adopted its format. Running film horizontally like that later gave birth to IMAX which is a feat in itself. It runs at 337ft/minute. I guess it would be redundant, with 120 existing. Even more pointless than going from full frame digital to crop DMF. It's 5x7, basically a cropped 6x7. Having 135-style canisters would be nice tho

Half-frame is 18×24 mm, while APS is 25.1×16.7 mm.
Surely you would agree that they're very close in size.

I can't speak for the Leica but the pen ft has a storied history in micro photography. Especially in people investigating physical materials. It had a really good setup for exposure etc for automation etc. I liked it because you could take lots of photographs on a roll and with the half frame you got 72 frames on a large roll. The MP half frame was more of a specialist camera because film was really expensive after the war but especially good film from the US from Kodak

On another note Ektar seems perfect for half frame due to the fine grain structure. I'd give a testicle to have fine grained 1600 speed film though

Yeah, the similarities end at the size of the negative.
Half-frame is still just normal 135 film, while APS has a special cartridge with a built in exposure counter, magnetic strip for recording metadata on each exposure, and other bullshit.

On the subject of Ektar, I've been wanting to shoot a roll or two, but I'm too cheap for current color film prices.
I'm just shooting bulk loaded B&W.
