Honestly they should make that a cut down Z8 a year later and with massive restrictions on fps, maybe without 8K. No, actually, just no video allowed, like the Df.
Z8 is the thing Nikon is good at right now and will be remembered for it. They should jam the memory stack sensor in a retro body. No shutter. No video. Oops all dials.

Would absolutely considering this would not cost more than 2000. So unlikely. In this market it would probably cost 3000.

The Df is a larp camera. Nikon should have went all-in on the "manual focus" part and just strip out all the AF bits and make interchangeable focus screens available just like the old days. The viewfinder on the Df is a disgrace when compared to any FE or FM or even Nikkormats.

I know what you're talking about. It's not an official one. I think it's cut from an F6 focusing screen though I can't be sure.
Even with the split-image screen, you are still burdened with an LCD autofocus overlay, and the viewfinder will never be as bright as one found in for example the F3.

It's much more logical than the Zfc. If Nikon actually goes the vintage larp route why go right inside Fuji territory rather than create a full frame Fuji which everyone has been begging for?

Let me pitch.
Nikon Zf, boring mirrorless camera, plastic, dials, but released alongside with an FTZf adapter compatible only with Zf ($999 extra). Adapter would enable aperture control for AI-S, autofocus screwdriver for AF-D, and a built-in mirror.
Zf EVF would be removeable and an accessory pentaprism would take its place when camera is equipped with the FTZf adapter, allowing TTL view.

You just described a shittier Nikon Df with extra steps.

If Nikon wants to appeal to the hipsters in all of us and remain mirrorless, how about a digital split-image focus screen in the EVF and make it changeable in the menu so you could have a traditional like the Nikon or a 45 degree one like on the Kodak Retina Reflex, Contaflex and some Nikon focus screens.

To add further, no one is going to drive AF-D lenses on a mirrorless when they can get the same optical formulas with AI and AI-s lenses that would bolt on with an off-the-shelf FTZ adapter so that eliminates the focus motor in the camera and the AI tab, which also now allows mounting of later pre-AI lenses.

You could also use it as a pure manual lens, though I admit, the focus feel probably won't be as smooth as a "real" manual focus lens, and the plastic aperture ring does feel pretty cheap. Funnily enough, Tokina's AF-D lenses actually have solid metal aperture rings that turn with the same "hand feel" as Nikon AI lenses.
