please help me /p/? please? i can't stop shooting in the lowest aperture on my lenses. i can't help it. i've tried to go higher. f/4, f/5.6, f/6.3, f/9, f/11, hell i've even tried f/16. i just...i don't know. i can't stop shooting in f/1.8. i think something may be wrong with me. what do i do /p/? i need serious help, bros...

What are you shooting?
You might be secretly struggling with composition.
Blurring the bg is vastly easier than learning how to compose a busy bg.
There are thousands of ways an unblurred bg can look like shit vs it’s almost impossible to make a blurred bg look bad.

Who gives a shit, but here's some ideas that just fell out of my ass.

Get used to shooting in /p/ mode and not even paying attention to what aperture its picking. Just focus on whatever you're taking a picture of.

If you're a control freak and must use manual mode. Set your ISO to 100, set your shutter speed to 125, and pretend you can't change them. Control the exposure by using the aperture. Shots at f/1.8 will be blown out unless the light is low enough to need it. You'll be forced to use f/8, even f/16 to proetct your highlights.

Good advice.

Also, try reversing it. Set your aperture to 2.8 and your iso to 100 (or 400 or 800 or whatever) and pretend you can’t change the setting. Then use the shutter speed to capture more or less light. Good exercises, both will make you understand what does what better.

It's fine and based. Wide aperture hate was started by some creepy canadian who is mad at tony northrup for being more successful than him and based tony doing an autofocus test wide open on an f1.2 lense a week after that cute shiba down the street broke up with him sent him over the edge.

Max bokeh = basically a free colored studio backdrop.

Try going outside anon.

This photo is straight from raw, f1.9, iso 100, 1\8000 in bright sunshine with a bright white painted wall facing the sun and there's no clouds between the sun and that wall. It's underexposed. There's over a whole extra stop before it starts clipping and the histogram is bunched to the left.

We've had cameras since at least the 90's that will do 1\16000 too.

Sunny 16 isn't relevant, it's designed to give the minimum exposure you can get away with, which was important on 35mm film as you'd really want to stay at iso 100 where possible. On digital we can dial in a photo to 1\3 of a stop under where anything clips with zero effort.

I'm on the reverse bro, I need all to be in focus. I find it disgusting when there is foreground or background blur. I vomit at the sight of any blur. I have difficulty using even 2.8 at night, its like blasphemy, a curse. HELP ME

Experimental jazz is piss easy, just noodle around in a jazz scale doing whatever you want.
Heavy metal is about playing very complex stuff very fast with perfect accuracy.

In fact your example you tried to imply is stupid works because blur your bg or jazz improvisation are easy because you can do anything and not fail.

Heavy metal is like a bg with no blur. Any mistake at all will stand out glaringly obviously and ruin everything.
