24-105 is indeed the all-around zoom lens I consider if I go to FE (maybe 20-70 F4 but I still want that 20 f1.8 G, so might as well not overlap focal ranges), good enough IQ from the reviews, but it has no internal zooming like the 18-105, therefore it's not ten millions times better as far as I'm concerned. IQ is an important criteria, and it should be, but it's not the only criteria I'm seeking for.
I don't need zooming capabilities right away, so I can live in the meantime with my old 18-105 and maybe they'll release an FE internal zooming lens in the meantime, one that's not the 28-135. Maybe even a 24-105 G II, a bit bigger but no 28-135 tier, a man can dream, though maybe it's not physically possible. But even if APS-C, the 18-105 exists though. 24-105 G II just slightly bigger than the 24-105 G should be doable. Just leave off the motorized part.
