Is a 50mm all you need for travel photography? asking as I'm heading on holiday soon and am afraid I'll miss out if I don't bring my zoom or kit lens

50 is all you need, i flew to DFW with only a Df and 50/1.4 AF-D and did this.

50mm is objectively the best travel lens

if you're going someplace beautiful or interesting, it doesn't matter, just bring one lens, every picture will look good because it's a picture of something worth looking at.
if you're going someplace boring that looks like everywhere, may as well bring your whole gearbag to keep yourself entertained

My go-to setup for two lenses: 35 and 85 and for single lens: 50mm

I haven't been taking my camera out much since covid started but back when I was shooting regularly there was a period of a year where I'd exclusively use my 50mm lens and only swap to my zoom if I knew I'd be taking pictures of birds or wildlife

You already have so much of it that anyone looking at your photos is looking at them after 35 out of 36 megapixels have been binned. You can crop for zoom, heavily, and still have a great looking image.

Absolutely horrible idea. Its great as a second lens next to something wider but on its own you're going to miss out on a lot of stuff.

The closest you can get to one and done lenses is 28/35mm and then you'll be stuck cropping a lot. I was so stubborn to only bring a 35mm with me on my first backpacking trip and in hindsigh a kitzoom would've served me infinitely better.

Why wouldn't you just take a standard zoom rather than limiting yourself to one focal length? I feel like it's far more useful than the one extra stop of light you'll get from your prime.
