Together with the 16-50mm kit lens, and get rid of my three full frame cameras in exchange (Canon R6, Canon 6D and Nikon Z5, with a dozen or so associated lenses).

Reason is I want something smaller, more portable and more fashionable, and I've heard the DX kit lens is super sharp.

Thoughts? Or would I be better served by a Fuji or Sony APS-C?

Sure, fashionable is the wrong word. But carrying a small retro looking camera at least looks less dorky than a large ugly blob (like a Canon).

Also I don't want to be seen as a pro. I'd rather be seen as a rich man with a lot of free time who snaps some photos for fun.

Ignoring everything else, I'd avoid the Zfc based on a viewfinder alone, especially if it's your only camera. 0.68x/2.4mp is kinda meh, compared to similar options.

I've thought about the ZFc as a crop-sensor sidearm and a telephoto setup to compliment my Df. How good are those FTZ adapters? I have a 300/2,8 AI-s ED-IF manual focus with the Nikon 2x tele that turns it into a 600/4 and the combo is very sharp and versatile and I'd like to keep using it.

Or, buy a real leica. M3 is not too expensive.

which other aps-c has a better one (except the fuji xt5/xh2)? The Fuji XT30 has an even smaller one (0.6 magnification) and the Sony A6xxx have the same 0.7 with 2.4m dots.

Because the lenses make the system a lot lighter.

For example, here's a possible Nikon ZFC aps-c system vs Nikon Z5/Z6/Z7 full frame:

Z-FC - 445g
DX 16-50mm - 130g
DX 50-250mm - 405g
DX 24mm - 135g
Total: 1115g

Nikon Z5 - 670g
24-70mm - 500g
100-400mm - 1435g
35mm f1.8 - 370g
Total: 2975g

As you can see, an equivalent (in terms of focal lengths) system with full frame is almost three times the size and weight.

Not something I want to carry around when hiking in the wilderness etc.

What is tanking M3 prices? I remember these things used to be 2 grand minimum you can buy one now under 1k easy. I've thought about upgrading to one and ditching all my Russian stuff.

Different equivalent aperture is the point. You can choose the system based on what your requirements are, but say you want a 35mm f/2, for DX you are looking for 23mm f/1.4 lens and there are systems where it's available. On MFT you would have to find a 17.5mm f/1, and now run into some issues.

x-t2 is actually shorter in width and height, but 5mm deeper because of the grip and is indeed a whopping 62g heavier
x-t3 has deeper grip and comes in at 539g
totally right there are even smaller ff like the a7c, but the evf on that is trash

I use a d780 and a z6 with an ftz, no real issues imo - I run my 24-70 on my dslr and my 70-200vr on the z6, pretty sure the ibis and the vr work together on that lens - makes it super stable, although 200mm isn't super far to hold steady by hand anyways. I also shoot my f1.8G primes with the ftz and have no issues with focus speed or locking in.

I used to think that way. But after recently hiking in the wilderness for two weeks, carrying my full frame camera was a drag. When I saw how small the APS-C lenses truly were, I had a revelation. Time will tell how good the IQ is tho. I may keep my Z5 and a few full frame lenses for when I dont need the extra portability, and use the Zfc for travel and hiking only.

Absolutely true, at least in theory. But the problem is, where are these slow lenses for full frame? For example, where do I get a 24-70 or 24-105 f5.6? There are none. These are only offered as f2.8 or f4.

When it comes to prime lenses in normal perspectives (35, 40 and 50mm) there isn't much if any difference, though.

But in this Nikon example, I could get a 16-50mm zoom (24-75 equivalent) with a slow aperture, but at only 130 grams. There are no zoom lenses for full frame in such a small package.

This is another way to do it. Attach APS-C lenses on a full frame high megapixel body from Nikon or Sony. Then I'd only add 100-200 grams on the size of the body. It's an interesting idea.

you need the extra pixels to get definitively better low light performance as well otherwise when shooting equivalently it's a fractional stop of improvement. shooting equivalently on 42mp, and then resizing the full output to 26mp, reduces noise by over a stop while retaining the extra detail.

Sony tried with the A7c's kit lens, and nobody liked it. It's one part design difficulty (APS-C lenses can vignette more and use a smaller front element) one part vacant market. They might as well make the lens for APS-C, and then full frame users have the same mount so they can use it if they're feeling tired.

Nobody has made any slow zooms of GOOD QUALITY however. Why no Nikon S, Sony G/GM or Canon L series zooms with corner to corner sharpness and a fixed f5.6 aperture? All we get are plastic kit zooms with dubious image quality and no weather sealing.

Backpackers/hikers (basically all landscape and many architectural photographers) would love a small, lightweight but slow zoom lens. This is the market that buys MFT and sometimes APS-C cameras, either as their main or secondary setup. Huge market that nobody caters to when it comes to full frame.

Even fuji is releasing huge lenses like they don't care. Only sigma, who reaps high margins on some of the most cheaply made lenses outside of southeast asia, seems to care (assuming you don't care about the nonexistent QC)

I just checked the zfc, the bottom plate seems to be made of plastic. the top dials look nice for the larp. having no grip feels off for a digital camera. the camera body is lightweight. unfortunately, the battery is dead.

2/3 of the color data is interlopated but contrast is preserved, so the color filter doesn't noticeably hurt

go ahead and try this with a camera that still uses 4 shot pixel shift like a pentax or sony. a regular image, and a 4SPS image (color filter cancelled out), will look nearly identical only some colors will be slightly different and areas of ultra-fine detail where moire appeared will now look normal. if you don't zoom in 400% or A:B the reds, interlopation is very, very good these days.

Voigtlander still makes lenses for sony

It's just more difficult for their engineering department because sony's radically different mount requires designs that correct for it. Lenses for sony always include one or two extra elements to counter the thicker protective cover. It's not even the mount, as L mount is also still a bit too small, and leica needs to use special microlenses and cover glass to cope and still may yet have corrosion issues in the future.

Some /p/osters are white women who just want to look cute and take nice pictures without a bunch of technical stuff. OP will probably end up just getting an SLR. Women tend to like SLRs because they're funner, while men like MILCs because they are technically superior and might not even put in the effort to take a good photo if they aren't convinced of it.
