Yes, I like photography. I have an IG account and watch photography related content. I just want to know this:
Why is every content related to photography just a gearfag's wet dream? The main subject is always a guy or garl with a very big FF camera doing... well, fuck all.
It's not even about photos anymore. I keep seeing only POVs of them taking pictures and not the pictures themselves. And, of course, a shitty song that is trending at the moment.
My next question is: why?
Are gearfags bringing in more views?

This is a bigger pathology than photography. People use to make art for God or big pleasure but now it is all about me me me me me me. Severe narcissism is rampant in whole world. They love the idea of photography not photography itself. Same with books or any other art form. People don't care about depth anymore, it is just about surface.

I would suggest you that to just ignore. Every art form in every era lives on the support of some fringe autists. Normalfag's engagement with art and an autist's engagement with art is very different. So do your own thing bro. Follow like minded people. We also have /p/ee, our home, we can always take refuge here.

That sounds like a meta subject, photography (content) about photography (process). So, gear is going to be in it, because just like the most faithful idealist philosopher cannot live without his blood, even most ascetic of photographers needs a camera to make a photograph. It's just how it works.
You might be expecting something different? For example, if you want photos of cars, don't search photography. Search cars. If you want photos of nature, don't search photography. Search nature landscapes. If you want photos of pussy, don't search photography. Search porn.
You might be looking for street or abstract art photos. I just don't know. But yeah I agree gear is kind of everywhere right now it's like trying to find Hitori Bocchi, and seeing some pink hair instead.

Straight into gear content. People are going to come and ask, what camera you use, what gear you pack, etc. and at some point they make a post or video about it and it gets more engagement than b/vlogs and even technique content.

The algorithm always gives you more of what you pay attention to. I get to see some pretty nice stuff in between my niece's cornflakes and coffee pictures which I am obliged to give likes to. But I never see random gear.

Absolutely none of them give a fuck about actual photography, they care about showing off and need a way to photograph them self doing so. Hence they associate this as they like photography.

Composition is the same as it's always been, and if you were to talk about your composition do you know what happens? You also must talk about your gear. Gear and composition are the same thing and they cannot really be separated. How you choose to compose a frame is directly affected by the gear you choose to use.
