anons, what do you use to carry around your camera and lenses when out on the go?

what's your opinion on camera backpacks? I think they're too inconvenient when you need to get a lens out.

I got a couple of primes I'd like to carry with me, I'm looking for something solid and understated like picrel.

Recommend me a nice sling bag/fanny pack that can fit my OM-4Ti with a 50mm mounted on, enough space for another 28mm lens and an (optional) 85mm lens. With spare space for my keys, phone, wallet and a leatherman knife.
Something hip and cool yet lowkey. That can be worn every day if needed.
Price is not an issue but it would be nice if it was under 300$.
Bonus points if a small tripod can be mounted to it.

I have a "Mystery ranch hip monkey" hip pack. I carry 1 spare lens in it, leaving enough space to place the other lens during lens change cause I'm not holding both lenses in my hand during lens change.

Dismount lens from camera, place in "hip monkey", take the other lens out of "hip monkey", mount on camera.

Has expanding compartment with compression straps so you can put your other objects in there. Snall tripod I don't know about that, maybe you can rig something up with bunjee cords.

Is there any padding inside the bag? My problem with normal fanny packs is that it seems all the gear inside is very exposed to dings.

Is there a backpack that's like the Peak Design Everyday 20L except a bit smaller?

I tried it in a store, feature and functionality wise it's perfect, but with that origami shelf system my lenses would rattle inside since not all my lenses are long enough to fill up the space, but the leftover space is so awkward that I can't use it for anything else.

Or any other small backpack really that has:

>some sort of separator/shelf system for easy lens changes

IMO, better off to get a regular backpack and a Lowepro Creatorbox Large (or Medium if you have m43 or A6XXX sized kit). That gives you padding and organization, and you can just stow the whole insert when home.

In my experience, pretty much all camera backpacks are dumb compromises and never fit everything correctly. They leak in the rain, they are never comfortable enough, and they generally look bad.

If you’re actually doing serious enough work that you need to haul a library of lenses somewhere, you’re either going to benefit from a real backpack with proper load carriage, or if this is from your car to a studio or park for a planned shoot, you should consider a Portabrace type bag or rolling Pelican case.

For messenger bag or dedicated ‘satchel/sling/bag’ type stuff, then you’ve got a lot of good options from Vanguard, LowePro, ThinkTank, Tenba, etc. But again, you could also just buy a messenger bag that you like, and drop a camera insert in it.

This is what I do. I have a regular hiking backpack and I keep a lowepro case inside and I also pack a couple lenses in lens cases. Everything being double zippered all but guarantees it's waterproof but it's not as easy to do lens changes

I already have a PD sling 10L which is awesome for casual photo walks, fits body + 3 lenses, tripod mounted on bottom, and some leftover space for extras. But the main problem is that I can't really take it on hikes. If I walked with that on heavier inclines it'd wreck my shoulder.

Yep those already came up when I looked for a good alternative. I will look into one that's nice looking and the right size for me. Hopefully one that fits also a bottle of water and some other edc stuff

camera backpacks are generally ok camera bags and shitty backpacks. You're gerneally better off getting a decent backpack (I like osprey) and getting a camera insert to go inside it. Especially if hiking, camera bags are really shit hiking bags, you'll find it much easier to carry stuff in a proper hiking bag.

I do the lowepro with a regular backpack as well. Work provided an OGIO backpack that's been good. I can carry a small collapsible tripod in the water bottle compartment and if I wanted my big tripod on there I could lash it to the carry handle. The lowepro fits an A6100, one lens and a GoPro I use as a backup video camera.

Got this thing today. It's surprisingly solid.
It's all metal (except for rubber pads between the clamps) and the fasteners and the release are simple and easy to open and close.
I tried it with my 70-200mm too, and it holds well. I'm more scared the belt may give in. I don't think I'll be using it with that lens though (this is a 24-120mm, which is comfortable).

I bought this by Dickies. Its bigger than your average fanny pack but smaller than a full sized shoulder bag.
If you have a small camera like I have it's perfect. Fits camera + lens and some backup lens with room left for whatever in the other compartment like cigarettes or your wallet.

im not having that happen when i live in third world where they'll steal a paper if the see it hanging off your bag

Then travels made by buy a Peak Design 45l backpack and 10l sling to do carry on.

I don't use the thinktank much anymore. I did a few hikes with it and my shoulders were messed up from carrying as much as it holds. Much rather the comfort of a backpack for hauling gear and then the sling for a quick grab bag.

This is my go to, a Tenba Fulton V2 16L All Weather. I bike commute with it and also use it for big day events like sports tournaments, I fit my K3iii with a 150-450 on it and battery grip etc in the main compartment, plus a 50-135 etc and 2-3 more lenses if needed, monopod or tripod on the side, and then whatever else in the roll top
