Do you think anyone could make an E or L mount camera and start selling it? Or would you get sued? I'd just make a tiny pocketable camera and install Android on it.

At the point where you violate the patent and start selling it without giving the patent holding their vig, yes, that activity will be shut down.

The grey area is in selling plans and instructions on how to do this. Selling the finish item would likely draw the most attention from the manufacturers because that competes directly with them. The path where you draw up plans and sell the with instructions will likely give you less attention because that's a different audience, practically.

For what it's worth, I'm intrigued in what you posted, but I also don't think it's the path I would take at this time. Mainly because I am content to remain a consumer at this point. The performance or convenience of creating my own photographic tools does not outweigh the benefits of using designs that are on the market and available. Doesn't mean it won't make sense for others.

Have you tried buying one? You'll find that you can only buy on bulk order, so make sure to have a few million ready. You'll also learn of a mountain of caveats on where and how you can use them.
