Found this zenit-e in a soviet antique store. Assuming it works and is in usable condition, which I will make sure of (any advice on this?), is it worth buying for around 30-40 dollars? I am a novice photographer, interested in film photography and my current camera is a Canon powershot elph 330.

I guess my real intention with taking the image was to try and share something I found beautiful irl, with both people I know and don't know. I uploaded it because my IRL experience of it shaped the way I see it in picture, and I thought the picture too was beautiful enough to share. I think I see what you're getting at, though, the picture is not in fact my IRL experience, it is 2D and emotionless to anyone but me

exactly, there are plenty of beautiful things that if photographed mindlessly look like shit.
whereas there are plenty of boring things that if photographed well can look stunning or tell a fantastic story.

taking a photo is not as simple as taking a snapshot of what your eyes see. you have to learn how to transpose your experience into a 2D picture, which means a lot of times taking photos in unintuitive ways, such as getting closer or father away or adding lights that aren't there

the only reason I was considering buying the Zenit was because I stumbled across it, I don't know of many places here where you can buy 1990s nikons or prakticas, but i appreciate the suggestions.

I am a gearfag to the heart, and i love the involvement analog gives you, but I think film is ultimately too expensive for me, it's like a subscription service and I don't have the money for that.

Assuming it works, nothing wrong with a Zenit-E. Great camera, M42 glass is cheap and plentiful and that Helios 58/2 on it is a winner.

I've owned most Communist-made SLRs if I had to buy one now it would probably be either the Zenit 6 or the original M39 SLR Zenit-S that I actually own.

OP here, ended up settling for a different offer, cheaper.

- Zenit 11
- Zenit ET tybe 6b (belOMO unfortunately)
- Helios 77M-4
- Helios 44-2 2/58
- Industar 50-2

You might say that the gear is inferior, but while the OP offer was for ~40 usd, I got these for ~24 usd, and I don't think the gear matters so much as having a starting point.
I also love the 11, big improvement over model E

picrel is the 11 with the strap, and ET on the left

Got my first roll of film, Centuria 135-36 ISO 100. Don't try to address my film choice because I have no choice, there is quite literally one film dealer here and he has one type of film to offer (~11 usd)

might be a while before i have something worth posting here, in love with the manual photography though.

Just the lens are usually worth more than that, you did good.

I love the industar 50-2 like you wouldn't belive it, its comfy even if strange to use at first.
