Sony camera dying

It takes a few photos or one then stops working. Anyone ever fix it? It's a nex-7. I could still use it for video with no problem, it's a hobby should I do that or fix it?

If consistently happens during taking a still photo, It doesn't like the shutter for some reason. You might need to replace it. Sadly that's also not certain and could be electronic glitch of some sort. Did it see any water during its life? Nex7 might be worth actually repairing.

Seems to be the case, I can turn on mechanical shutter and it'll work for a while again.

Literally the cheapest shit camera sony ever made. Shutter failure is not DIYable.

I bought it knowing it was broken, I'm not a Sony fan (Canon gang) but it's worth noting. I turned off electronic shutter, used mech I just rubbed a magnet over the shutter and it's working fine for now.
