most of japanese photography is just straight up snapshits and their portraiture only works because of their dead, colorless, stale and/or simple and/or single color backgrounds that they use to their advantage when they make their models/subjects wear colorful clothes to stick out from the dead as fuck or simple as fuck background. try this shit in quite literally any other country outside of japan and it wont work... thats also why russian portraiture and balkan portraiture works too, they too have the dead, stale and/or simple backgrounds to work with. try to do this style anywhere else in europe, australia, africa or americas and you will get only snapshits because it doesnt work when you have colorful, bright and otherwise intrusive/distracting backgrounds.
