Camera VS Software

>AKA shooting for SOOC results vs shooting for something you know you will edit.
When you take a picture, are you taking it because it's lit and exposed in exactly the way you want to present the final image, or are you taking the picture to capture as much detail as possible to be able to create something out of it in RAW processing?
I have two very different cameras, one old and one new. With the newer camera, it feels like I get the most out of it when I exactly try to expose the image exactly correctly, making effectively no artistic decision with the exposure. With the older camera, it feels more organic, I feel like to get the most of that camera when I leave the shots more or less exactly as they are SOOC. Anyone else thought about this?
