I shoot in 16:9, as it is the 'average ratio' (which is why it was adopted for TVs and computers).
That said, I love cropping and using lots of different ratios. On my largely ignored IG, I post anything from their extreme ratio limits of 4:5 vertical to 1.91 horizontal. I used to post exclusively at 1:1 ratio, but that got boring and I do enjoy 2.39:1 ultrawide a lot, but realise it looks like shit on IG and needs letterboxing. A good compromise is 5:4, which makes it a little wider than a square, but still has enough height to look okay in a feed. I've also started to do 3:2 a little, which is the old school way. Though I did 4:3 for a while, but IG favours taller images. It's a shame, as I do prefer horizontal over vertical and wider over narrower.
I did post some letterboxed ultrawides to Twatter, which looked good, but again nobody cared. It also fucking sucked that Twatter finally brought in thumbnails for crossposts, then took crossposting from IG away, which makes Twatter/X fucking worthless to me now. So I don't have much of an outlet for ultrawides, even though I generally love making my photos look like movie shots. I've also experimented with 65:24, as per the XPan imitation threads occasionally posted here.
